The September 2013 Photo Friday event at the Center for Creative Photography will have the theme of the Civil Rights Movement. The event takes place in the Volkerding Print Viewing Room from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2013. This is a free event that provides visitors with an opportunity to see select photos in the museum's collection up close.
The photos that will be available for viewing for the September 2013 Photo Friday event are related to the Civil Rights Movement and more specifically the bomb explosion at the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama 50 years ago this September. The photos on display include Marion Palfi's photographs of segregation and racism in the South; Benedict Fernandez's portraits of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr; and Danny Lyon's photos of the funeral mourners in Birmingham.
About the Center of Creative Photography: The Center of Creative Photography is located on the U of A Campus just south of Speedway near the pedestrian underpass that is just East of Park Ave. The Center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
