Citywide closing of Dominick's grocery stores are a topic of investigation

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has created a task force of 14 members that will closely examine the citywide closing of Dominick's grocery stores. The group, led by deputy mayor Steve Koch, consists of aldermen, community organizers, labor leaders and business consultants.

The task force will investigate the effects of the store closings on the affected areas. The goals of the group are to find new tenants for the specific sites left vacant, ensure access to fresh food and vegetables in the affected areas and support workers affected by store closings.

Dominick's announced in November that it was closing its stores in the Chicagoland area. Although many of the chain's sites were purchased by rivals like Jewel's and Mariano's, a number of its locations have yet to be acquired.
