The media often sheds light on issues that outrage the public; Chrysler workers drinking and drugging on their lunch break, city workers visiting their girlfriends while on the clock, city council members taking bribes; I could go on and on! Yes, we have a right to know who our tax dollars employ and to know that they are doing what we pay them to do. I am grateful to the media for exposing the bad; however, I would also like a dose of the good. Wouldn’t you?
First, let me say that this has nothing to do with my Examiner title. Yes, I am the Health Insurance Examiner, but no; this editorial is not about health insurance. And now, without further ado, I present you with "The Good".
This morning I stepped out of my front door and witnessed an act of kindness that I have not observed in quite some time. My mother, who is also my neighbor, was out raking trash and leaves from the curb. A garbage truck headed up the street and suddenly stopped in front of her home. The sanitation worker then exited his truck, picked up a broom and proceeded to help my mom with her yard work. He swept, raked and bagged the trash so that she could get it in the truck before he finished the block. Now, I have to say that was remarkable, and no one was around to see it; well, no one but me. So, I decided to tell everyone. Now, I don’t have access to millions of people like “the Media”, but I do know that many people will appreciate this piece. So, for those of you who long for “The Good”, this article and picture is for you.
And thank you to the sanitation worker that helped my mom with her yard work. Today, you’re a hero. Keep up the good work!
