Local offers at CitySteal.com

Sometime near the first of the year, I received an email from Rob Wilker, telling me about a St. Louis-based and Groupon-inspired deal site called CitySteal.com.  I vowed not to write about my experience until I had an opportunity to take advantage of one of their deals.  It took about 3 weeks for something to appeal to me, and during that time, my skepticism grew, as there wasn't a new deal every day as advertised.  And the deals that did pop into my email box simply weren't as significant as the folks over at Groupon.

But a lot has changed at CitySteal in the short time I've been following them.  The deals are starting to flow at a regular clip, and they're steadily becoming pretty darn impressive.  The one that caught my eye was a $10 certificate for The Posh Nosh in Clayton for only $3.  As much as I adore my neighborhood Macklind Deli, the idea of a Rebecca with Turkey Pastrami made my mouth water.  The deals at CitySteal aren't just restaurants - in fact, if you act now, you might be just in time for 80% off a membership at The Boxing Gym. 

Yes, 80% folks.  CitySteal is playing an A game, and only two months after opening their metaphorical doors.  Two graduates from St. Louis University, the aforementioned Rob Wilker and Josh Hartley, launched CitySteal in November of 2009, and they've already developed a sturdy following, a growing network of  retailers, and a real understanding of the St. Louis market.  Locally owned, locally operated, local deals, and none of those overly smug descriptions (a peevish habit the Groupon folks continue to use).  Good luck on your endeavor, gentlemen.  In my book, you're on your way to a winner.
