Forging their way outside of the mainstream of the Kansas City blues scene, and possibly closer to the mainstream music scene itself, is a rowdy band of young fellows called the Paperclips. Yes, their style has a pinch of polish and a ring of of modernity to it, but it is unique, it is delicious, and it is bluesy.

This group has a great blues vocalist and songwriter in its leader Jake Briscoe. The songs are blues-rock, with a real feel for the gut-churning emotions of the genre, while maintaining a catchiness and flair that could make them a mainstream success. Briscoe and bassist Jason Richards lay down some wonderful harmony work on the vocals, especially in brave, stripped down sections where the vocals are featured, like the intro to “Please Tell...” The video for “Please Tell...”, featured below, demonstrates the irascible crave for quality that the Paperclips cling to.

Drummer Chris Evans is a solid performer as well. The group is known for putting on tight, high energy live shows which more than live up to their recordings, a testament to their musicianship and dedication to their music. This group comes highly recommended for a night-out of riveting live performance.

After struggling to find a weekend date when the Paperclips were playing in Kansas City, especially in a club that is not renowned for being overrun with yappy youngsters, the Kansas city Blues & Jazz Music Examiner is happy to see that the Paperclips have landed a several gigs at great venues for their upcoming show calendar:
