A dog who was shot by a Holly Hills, Fla., police officer two days after Christmas, is getting veterinary care at the expense of the city, reported Monday's Daytona Beach News Journal.
Lady, a four-year-old Rottweiler, was shot after a police officer went through a gate, into a fenced yard where Lady was located. According to police, Lady lunged aggressively at the officer prior to being shot multiple times.
Lady's guardian, Richard Stotler, provided his version of what took place on a Facebook page created for Lady.
Late Friday night @ Dec 27, 2013 Lady was shot 3 times by Holly Hill Florida Police in her locked backyard. They were searching for a person that has not lived there nor been there for as long as we know. They were informed that they were at the wrong house but they proceeded to pry open a locked gate to the backyard where they shot her for no reason.
Police were at the home looking for a woman who was wanted for violating probation for solicitation of prostitution; according to the current residents of the home, the woman has not lived at that address for as long as they have been there and they have no idea who she is.
Lady was severely injured after being shot multiple times and she is "traumatized" by the frightening ordeal.
