It's been less than three months since Paragon Studios announced City of Heroes Freedom, the superhero MMORPG's transformation into a new business model that includes both subscription and free-to-play options. Coinciding with the latest free content update, Issue 21: Convergence, City of Heroes Freedom adds a lot of things to the seven-year-old game, including a new starting experience, a spiffed-up character creator, new powersets, new ways to purchase add-ons to enhnace the game, and much more.
VIP players, or those who have a valid subscription on September 13th, will gain access to Issue 21 and City of Heroes Freedom in a special headstart before the game is opened up to free and premium players. (Premium players are those who don't maintain a monthly subscription but have supported the game in some way, whether through a former subscription or purchases from the Paragon Market.)
Paragon Studios is planning lots of special events for VIP players beginning Tuesday. These include in-game freebies such as respec tokens, costume change tokens, and a special badge ("Door Buster"), as well as sales on items in the all-new Paragon Market and in-game events such as costume contests, a second Praetorian invasion, and playtime with the developers and community team.
"I can't believe City of Heroes Freedom is coming out during my vacation," said Clayton Hornbuckle, a Huntington resident. "I'd planned on just sitting around the house doing nothing all week, so it's great to have this come out while I'm off."
