City Market

Located just a few blocks north of Downtown Kansas City in the River Market District, City Market has been in operation since 1857.

It's ones of the largest farmer's markets in the midwest with 30 full-time merchants that are open year round. In the summer and spring month Saturdays, it's filled with over 140 unique vendors that include plants, fruits, vegetables, baked goods, flowers and crafts made by local artists and artisans.

Along with that, City Market offers specialty foods, seafood, fresh meat, authentic restaurants and cafes.

Here's an up-close photo of a merchant table filled with fresh loose leaf tea and all kinds of fresh spices.  At City Market you will be able to find the most common produce, to produce and other items you may have never heard of. There is a very diverse supply of fresh products as well as people found at the City Market.

City Market is open year round with free attendence (unless there is a special event or concert going on). The average Saturday attendance in 2008 clocked in at over 13,000 people, and each year the numbers seem to grow.

There is certinaly something for everyone at City Market and it can make for a fun-filled family day whether you're shopping for fresh produce, flowers or souvenirs, grabbing a bite to eat or just walking around enjoying a beautiful weekend.
