The City of Lake Charles held a groundbreaking ceremony at noon today at 100 N. Mill St. for the new Lake Charles City Court facility.
The new Lake Charles City Court will be a 22,000 square foot building housing two courtrooms and offices for the City Judges of Divisions A and B and their staff, Violations Division, Civil Division, City Prosecutor and Ward 3 Marshal.
Said Mayor Randy Roach:
"The new Lake Charles City Court facility will offer the judges, city marshal, staff and citizens a more secure and modern judicial facility. It is a project that has taken some time to start due to funding requirements but the monies are now in place to complete construction."
Said Judge Thomas P. Quirk, Division A and Judge John S. Hood, Division B:
"We are thrilled about this new, state of the art facility, which will meet the needs of City Court operations for the foreseeable future. We are honored to be able to finally bring this project to the citizens of Lake Charles and Calcasieu Parish."
Said Joey Alcede, Ward 3 Marshal:
"I am proud to be a part of the team that made this much needed project become a reality."
The $5 million project includes funding from: Calcasieu Parish Public Trust Authority, the City of Lake Charles, City Court, and City Marshal.
The project is being managed in conjunction with Lake Charles City Court administration. The Architect and Engineering agreement is with Randy M. Goodloe, AIA; and the contractor is Priola Construction. Completion of the new Lake Charles City Court is estimated to be in 24 months.
