City Harvest Benefit at Apella: A Mid-Winter Escape!

Discreetly located near the East River, Apella event space hosted the City Harvest Benefit: A Mid-Winter Escape with a bevy of delicious food and drink sponsors for this Mexican themed tasting.

This was my first time experiencing the grandness of Apella, probably one of the most magnificent venues I have ever been to. With floor to ceiling windows, breath-taking views of the city lights and river, along with sleek, silver swing chairs, simple yet elegant décor, this was a real treat before even going into the actual event.
Sample tastings from the most electric restaurants included everything from: savory guacamole, dulce de leche cake truffles and flavored grasshoppers!

Guests sampled each station while helping feed New York’s hungry for this fantastic fund-raiser.

City Harvest has served New York City for 30 years and is the world’s first food rescue organization dedicated to providing meals to the city’s hungry men, women and children. This year, City Harvest will collect more than 42 million pounds of excess food from all segments of the food industry, including restaurants, grocers, corporate cafeterias, manufacturers and farms. This food is then delivered free of charge to nearly 600 community good programs throughout New York City using a fleet of trucks and bikes.

City Harvest helps feed more than one million New Yorkers that face hunger each year.
A few personal favorite sample dishes included: Chilled avocado soup with peekytoe crab salad from Delicatessan. Salted margarita pie cups courtesy of Hill Country Chicken, guacamole de aquacate Mexicano and chalupas de arrachera con guacasala provided by La Palapa with tasty avocados from Mexico. Momofuku Milk Bar created tasty dulce de leche cake truffles (I had three of these)! The hors d’oeuvres from Riverpark that I would personally recommend would be: cheese, chili and oregano empanadas, corn and lobster fritters and the shrimp avocado mousse with charred chiles.

Organic cucumber vodka with grapefruit was my beverage of choice as well as Jose Cuervo margaritas. Yum. Yum. Yum.
