City Hall was brimming with activity last Wednesday, September 15, 2010. Two hot topics were being voted on by council members. One was whether or not taxpayer's dollars should be used to pay for legal fee's about to be incurred by the Public Safety Manager, Chief Jack Harris. And the other was whether or not a new tax/fee should be imposed on the citizen's of Phoenix in the amount of $2.00 per person every time you want to go walk your dog in the park.
A little background on public parks. Public parks have traditionally been located on land that was donated to the City by a private party. Yes there is a fee to maintain them, but seriously, when was the last time you went to the park? Between the questionable visitors to the park, and then having to wade through all the feces left behind by the many birds and ducks, who really wants to have a picnic in the park anymore?
But people love to hike. So, this new $2.00 fee would also encompass hiking trails. Hiking trails, again located on land that has usually been donated by a private party or is located on State owned land. This new fee is being brought to a vote, after having been tabled at the Sept. 15th meeting, on October 6th. When asked by Congressman Sal DiCiccio if a no vote would make the fee disappear, Mayor Gordon indicated that he had not "researched that portion" and so did not have an answer.
If you love the right you have to get up early on a Saturday morning and take the dog for a quick run at the local park, and don't want to have to pay even more money out of your pocket for a local government that just takes, takes, takes from the hard working people in the Phoenix metropolitan area, join other citizen's like you who say no more money out of my pocket!
Here is a statement from Congressman Sal DiCiccio, "What’s most important is that more people are showing up, speaking up and starting to be heard. Those are the voices that matter and that can’t be silenced."
The meeting is located at 200 W. Jefferson Street which is the corner of 3rd and Jefferson. The meeting should be scheduled at 3:00 pm and is open to the public.
