Citizen Sarah Palin: She's unplugged, rogue and lovin' her new American life

Sarah is comfy talking to the troops in Kuwait, just as she is, Alaska tee and all.

Sarah is comfy just as she is, no fuss, no muss, Even in Kuwait.

American women rock. Book authors and basketball players, heads of households and heroes, American women are free to be all they choose to be, or not. Sarah Palin, newly-crowned best-selling author and private citizen, is "all that," and more.

But more what? The media and her detractors still don't know what to make of Palin. Now that she's not a politician, Palin doesn't follow the rules. She's not scripted, not packaged and not in sync with old school journalists like Barbara Walters, who openly cringe at Palin's street-wise jargon.

Sarah doesn't seem to care. She says she's the most honest she's ever been, telling talk show host Sean Hannity that all her interviews now are "unplugged." Every question is fair game, but be careful, Katie Couric… this time, she'll tell you exactly where Alaskans get their world news (hint: not your network), and what she thinks of a certain "perky" yet arrogant media anchor who asked her the same question about abortion, 12 different ways.

Palin's still in the ring, her gloves are off, and she's proving that she's tougher than a "motha..." bear. No political handlers are scripting what she's to say or not say. No one is telling her when to eat, what to wear or when to keep her opinions quiet. She's calling the shots now, she's gone rogue and she appears to be reveling in it.

Oprah Winfrey's not loving it, or Sarah. In her much-hyped, first television interview with the divine Mrs. P., Oprah communicated an intense sense of insecurity. "Do I need to worry? Do I need to worry that you're going to get your own talk show?" she quizzed Sarah, while squirming in her chair, ostensibly to re-adjust an intimate article of clothing that was tied up in a knot.

Oprah has good reason to worry. When Oprah turned her back on Palin two years ago, she also turned her back on a large segment of women who don't share Oprah's point of view on politics, government or God, for that matter. Women in the middle, women on the right, women who call themselves Independents, Republicans, Conservatives, Christians, tea partiers or patriots... Oprah abandoned them when she chose to campaign mightily for her down-for-the-struggle "brotha," Barack Obama, instead of her BFF, Hillary Clinton.

While she succeeded in putting the first black man in the White House, she also ensured for another 4 years that the only women in the Oval Office would continue to be presidential wives.

Two years later, the women Oprah abandoned, like Sarah, are b-a-a-ck. They tuned-in, en masse, to see their hero, the spirited Sarah P., "unplugged" and decidedly roguish. While the political bonds are gone from Citizen Palin's life, thankfully, not gone are Sarah's graciousness, her clarity, her intelligence and her honest, straightforward, pistol-shot-from-the-hip answers.

Part of Sarah's popularity is her fearlessness. Sarah's unafraid to say "bull crap" to a shocked Barbara Walters, or "my bad" to Oprah. She repeats her dad's mantra, "I didn’t retreat... I reloaded," with a wink, not the whimper Palin haters wish she had.

The day Palin's interview aired, Oprah received the largest media share she'd received in more than 2 years, easily trouncing her interview with Barack Obama. Sure, Oprah's loyal audience tuned in to watch "the train wreck," as they call Palin on liberal blogs. No surprise there. Curiosity seekers, Palin politely calls them.

Oprah's numbers shot into the heavens on Sarah Palin day, and then plummeted into Hell the next, thanks to the O’s tawdry interview of "the biggest" (meaning successful) female porn star. With scheduling like that, Oprah ensured right-minded women would not stay more than a day.

Insane and intentional scheduling, or did Oprah just mis-judge Palin's incredible appeal? Oprah doesn't seem to like Sarah, still. Is she intimidated by Palin's all-American good-girl looks and fabulous figure? Her beautiful family? Palin's daughters clearly love her, as does her hubba-hubba, high school sweetheart, Todd, who is an equal partner in their family. Palin bagged herself a "trophy husband," and Todd got himself an unconventional trophy wife, in the category of Ft.Hood hero, Sgt. Kimberly Munley.

Could Oprah, the reigning queen of all things female, be just a tad jealous? Oprah has her millions, a media empire and sometimes, Stedman. She also has a lot of dogs. And she used to wield a great deal of influence among America's women. Until she turned her back on half of them.

Does Oprah, with all her riches and enough power to elect a president, understand the average American woman today better than Sarah does?

Watching Palin answer Oprah's questions, one can imagine shooting the bull and hoops with Palin. The more she is herself, the more her fans love her. In cities all across America, they are coming out by the thousands to stand in line all night, if necessary, to buy her book and have 15 seconds with the all-American girl who fearlessly took on the three biggest Os on the planet: Big Oil, Obama and Oprah, in that order.

Sarah Palin has survived several train wrecks in the past two years without a scratch. The question on the minds of curiosity-seekers and fans alike is, what's next, Sarah Barracuda? Could it be, will it be, a talk show?

I'm un-afraid to call "bull crap" on this piece of trash that masquerades as "journalism." Go back to your other hobbies.

  • Seeing Clearly 2 years ago

Wow. You just couldn't help calling Barack Obama, "brotha." Just couldn't restrain yourself.

  • aussie reader 2 years ago

    This is really poor journalism.

  • Perplexed 2 years ago

Wow, what an inane and completely subjective piece of journalism. Soon to be forgotten, just like Sarah Palin

  • Kim Bruce 2 years ago

    Excellent article and truthful, Kelly.
I see a lot of "pro-leftist" comments here.
Too bad they're on the losing side now.
Sarah Palin does a hell of a lot of good for conservatives and won't be bullied by the "communist camp".
    Go Sarah!

  • HDCDN 2 years ago

While everything Palin touches turns to gold and everything Obama touches turns to poop, let her critics get what they deserve.

  • LoveThatLady 2 years ago

"Oprah ensured right-minded women would not stay more than a day."
Wrong-minded women are the only ones watching oprah now.

Perplexed, you sound a little constipated, take a laxative it will help clear your mind.

aussie reader, get your head out of the kangaroo pouch so you can see the light.

JIm, we know you're used to reading the lamestream media so when you read the truth you gasp. :)

Sarah Palin a True American Patriot to the core.
Americans Love her and cause the wrong-minded people to gag everytime they see her smile.
God bless Sarah, Todd and their precious family in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

Oh so typical for the left-leaning pinko panzie commie bed-wetters to attack Kelly's article. That's all they know how to do, personal attacks, because they know they can't possibly win on the issues. Their logic is illogical. Other than attacks, they rely on the three newest symbols of the Liberal Left, smoke, mirrors and lights. They're like rabid animals and need to be put out of our misery!

  • Shari 2 years ago

Kelly, great article on one of the most influential persons of this day. Sarah Palin will hopefully become the definitive 21st century "politician" and return the institution of politics back to an entity of integrity, honesty, and true representation of the people, by the people, and for the people.

  • Grace Buchanan 2 years ago

Leave Kelly Anderson Wright alone! As a conservative, I am SICK of the media being so bleeding-heart Democratically biased. You don't like what Kelly writes because YOU are intoxicated with the leftist kool-aide. Personally, I LOVE this article and plan to share it with everyone I know. We need more interesting writers writers to honestly convey conservative issues. Congratulations, Kelly, on a job well done! Ignore the idiots.

  • John Marker 2 years ago

The only reason Oprah is rich, is because 20% of American women are idiots, and she is their queen. If not for the genius and ingenuity of American men over the last two centuries, Oprah would be a nobody. She was just the right fat dumb black woman at the right time. (weekday afternoons when the people who make this country function are at work, and the useless idiots are home doing nothing but watching tv all day). The quality housewives have more important things to do than watch Oprah. Sarah Palin, on the other hand would have been a success in any era of American history. She is self made, unlike pelosi, boxer, feinstein, clinton, and every other female in the public eye, all of whom's success was purchased by their fathers or husbands. Even Oprah must admit that her success is due to the network executives who realized they could use her as a tool to sell crap to women dumb enough to watch her daily drivel. Sarah did it all on her own, and liberals can't stand strong women.

  • John 2 years ago

I applaud Kelly for exercising her constitutional right in publicly supporting Sarah Palin. For those that choose to bash her for doing so, go back home to your nanny, its time to change your diapers, little ones.

  • Debra Amorino 2 years ago

Seeing Clearly..not. I guess you didn't catch Oprah referring to 'The One' as her brotha. Was that the best you could come up with? I'm not even a fan of Sarah Palin but I thought this was an excellent article, giving me insight as to why republicans adore the woman. Liberals are petrified of her political clout as evidenced here. As a Libertarian, I too worry she may have enough supporters to propel her into the White House but that's simply because I am not completely confidant she's ready for such a position. I do however think she'd make an awesome conservative talk show host, capable of influencing the vote away from the incumbant imbecile who presently occupies the Oval Office.

  • Brad 2 years ago

It's so nice to see a perspective on Sarah Palin that isn't all character defamation from the left. I love her even more now that she's refusing to "sit down and shut up", which is what the frightened left has been trying to tell her for months now. She's charismatic, people love her, and the democrats can't stand it.

  • Clay Mac 2 years ago

I live in West Texas, and have been around people who have the same values as Sarah Palin. The only ones that you might offend with this article , are the ones who follow Obama and the rest of the idiots who are destroying our Constitution. None of them can make a decision without making sure it is politically correct. I wish Sarah Palin was the governor of Texas . Maybe we could get some help down on the Mexico Border. All Hillary and her crew can do is blame the drug and violence problem on the US. Mexico doesn't know anything except, "Mordida" or for you ignorant politicians, "PAYOFFS"." Wait , they might know what that means". I wish I could bring a bus load of them down here with no guns, no body guards, and put them about 2 miles south of a little town in Az, and they'd either crap thier pants, run away, get raped , or die. What a bunch of dumb As----. Kelly,
don't worry about anyone who gives you hell about this article. Oprah quiting anyway, she's scared

  • Jim C 2 years ago

I wish those with all of the criticism would say something specific instead of the personal attacks.

It's time for Washington to get some common sense and put America first instead of their own political career's and then their party. The American people on a good day come in 3rd place with our current leaders.

  • Roger Lollar 2 years ago

When the dust settles, I have a feeling Mrs. Palin will come out on top. Great Article!

  • Mike C 2 years ago

Once again you have struck a nerve...this time by zeroing in on part of what appeals to many about Sarah and correlating it correctly with that segment of America that felt "dissed" so to speak by Oprah. Keep up the good work!

  • Rich 2 years ago

To Clay Mac Great idea but you know nothing is going to happen because they all voted for BO and the Hispanics want the illegals in our country...Over the summer they had had a riot in California where they tore down the american flag and put thiers on top....AP had a a sentence to say about it...We're not going to get help from the people we voted in so now we'll have to vote them out....About Oprah only time I watched her for Sarah but they said highest ratings in two years....Shes also a billionair so she got to be afraid that shes going to loss all her money and prestege too....Today they announce they got the 60 votes remember that come election time...Even the poor will be paying for this one but people want evething for free...Lets give them free tickets to anywhere they want to go...If the copenhagen traty is signed we give all our money to third world counties....America is sick...We have to get God to come back to us....God made us what we are and we kicked Him out ...

  • Hypeand[pocket]Change 2 years ago

I love when lefties come unglued. Unemployment is through the roof, a war in A-Stan the President refuses to acknowledge and Palin is their biggest issue.
Let's see, a private citizen on a book signing tour is more a threat than those in Washington? Wow, how grossly irrational.

    "Poverty we can believe in"

  • Greg Halvorson 2 years ago

The left, at its core, is a mindless troupe of moral-less fools with no concept of "tolerance" and the power of integrity. Their leaders use their ignorance, promising "aid" and "community," then with vote in-pocket, bury them in debt. When someone like Sarah comes along, they plug their ears and take orders, marching with the Ivory Tower elite. Too bad, they're about to get a paddling.... Obama has roused a Tiger on the prowl.

  • Greg Halvorson 2 years ago

Obama's not a "brotha," he's actually a fatuous boob and inveterate liar with the morals of a jackal.... But I'm a racist. I'm also black.

  • bethskii 2 years ago

Sarah is an honest, real person with good traditional values -- no wonder why the left hates her.

  • Hershann 2 years ago

Great article. Sarah is such a reminder that not all politicians are scumbag liars. But why the hatred for women who choose to have their children. They say they are pro choice, but I think they are just angry, unhappy and unsatisfied and therefore prefer death. Sad. I'm just glad to find a happy, intelligent professional woman for me to show to my daughter as a role model. Thank you Sarah.

  • Laurie 2 years ago

Excellent article. Ms. Palin is scrutinized for breathing while the corruption on the left gets no play.. A good lady. A role model - thanks for giving her due credit. The personal attacks are all the left has.

  • Margaret 2 years ago

Great article ! Sarah Palin is a true American !

  • chiliwilli 2 years ago

As much as the libs would love to forget Sarah Palin, they better get used to her. She's gonna be in your face for a long, long time. She's got plenty to say and not afraid to say it. So, if you don't want to hear her you better go have your ears sewn shut.

  • Laurie 2 years ago

Sarah Palin isn't your average politician...she's way above average and she's a common sense conservative. Go Sarah!

Palin would make an outstanding President... after BHO travesties... she will be another Ronald Reagan... GREAT ARTICLE! Keep up the good work!

I really hope she runs again! Landslide victory for Obama.

Jim ...... Glad you are unafraid! Please direct me to some of the pieces of journalism you have written. I would love for you to show me how you think it is done! Until I see something from you, I don't think I'll be paying much attention to your "drive by" criticism!
Seeing Clearly.... I see clearly where you are headed... gonna cry "racism" huh? I know Kelley personally and I suggest you get to know Kelley's background a bit more before you try that one. You might be surprised at what you find.
Aussie Reader.... Can you give me your list of credentials that make you feel as though you have some sort of professional credit as a journalism critic?

  • Jimmy in Indy 2 years ago

I find it hillarious that all of the criticism of this wonderfully honest piece typically consists of a few words per post. No real facts to dispute what is being discussed in the article. I don't suppose I expected much more than that because that would mean a Lib actually taking enough time to come up with some sort of genuine thought or at least minimal knowledge of the subject matter. Makes for a great laugh though! Keep it up Libs! I enjoy your brainless posturing!!! I am sure you are quite proud of yourselves!

  • Kelly- SugarLandMom 2 years ago

Kelly, you're a credit to all women, everywhere, and all people who stand for TRUTH and HONESTY in reporting! It's so sad that people REFUSE to see that Sarah Palin is a REAL person, with a REAL life, and REAL experience backing her words. She's an awesome example of women LIKE ME who live our lives for our families, our communities and our GOD. Thank you for putting her story so eloquently!

  • Laurel F. 2 years ago

    Go Sarah go!!!

  • Johnny Blade 2 years ago

Outstanding piece. It's no use trying to reach the left, however. The was a scientific study done a short while back which revealed that liberals' and conservatives' brains are actually "hard-wired" differently. They either can't see truth or they have distaste for truth. Sarah Palin is dynamite, and she's the only real hope we have in returning and rebuilding this country back from the destruction our kenyan-in-chief has inflicted upon this us and liberals don't even know it. Some of the left that voted to hand this country over to obama are just stupid, but they ALL got duped. Couldn't get enough of that koolaid, I guess. They just suck it down. The left must truly love socialism if they hate the freedom-loving, God-fearing attributes of Sarah Palin and see such messianic appeal in the anointed one who has ties to terrorists (william ayes, who wrote obama's biography and Rashid Khalidi who is an admitted PLO member) and funds grotesquely corrupt groups like ACORN. What a leader.

  • Combat Snoopy 2 years ago

To the Palin trashers, how much is Soros paying you to write a bunch of venom?

What is your financial incentive to do this? We know it's a bad economy and you want to get paid, but you're trash is so contrived and it's obvious.

  • Tim 2 years ago

Great article on Palin - telling the truth about her the liberals don't want us to hear. She shows us what a real woman can be like, not just the image the left wants all women to be. Keep up the great work, both Kelly and Sarah!

  • Matthew Mitchell 2 years ago

Awesom artical, I think she will be our next Regan.

  • Susanna Berry 2 years ago

Sarah Palin is the only candidate that got me out to vote in 2008! Of all of the candidates, she was the only one that said anything that made sense! None of the other three were worth the gas it would have taken to make it to the polls - but Ms. Palin, she was a candidate that I could stand with and support.

  • Darren 2 years ago

Congratulations on a fine portrait of the woman the leftists love to hate. Their pathological fear has been an endless source of entertainment ever since Sarah Palin emerged on the national scene last year, making it possible for conservatives to have some enthusiasm when voting for the McCain ticket (instead of just holding our noses and voting against Obama).

  • silvrscorpion 2 years ago

Great piece. Love Sarah Palin and I LOVE that she drives the Liberals NUTS! Anything that annoys them is something I absolutely adore! : )

  • Carl 2 years ago

I hope the libs keep thinking Sarah is Dumb. To their peril, they underestimated Regan too.

  • Alex 2 years ago

What is the left afraid of? They only lash out and attack those they are in fear of. AP has 11 members of their "Truth Squad" look at Sarah's book which is about 400 pages long and yet they only have 2 people looking at the health care bill which is over 2000 pages long. If you listen to the left, they will tell you who they are afraid of.

  • Globe Warmer 2 years ago

I think the American left don't like Palin because she's not ugly, both inside (with Marxist world view) and outside (with Marxist hairstyle).

  • Kimber 2 years ago

Well written! Thank you for this! Sarah is the next Reagan and the left knows it...it's why they hate her! You can't steal freedom when Sarah's around!
