Michael Vick, the convicted felon who did prison time for dog fighting, got signed by the Philadelphia Eagles. and now he wrote a book. In a public relations nightmare, Vick has been the target of threats and hate speech since his contract was first announced. Now, citing security concerns, Barnes and Noble did the right thing by announcing today, March 11 that they are canceling all of his signings.
Authors, even those that have ghost writers will draw crowds that range for a few people to thousands, all hoping for a few precious seconds in front of the author. Vick is the most hated man in sports. Most people think animal abuse is just above child molestation. Vick, to be fair, never physically killed dogs himself, but he ran a kennel which bred them for dog fighting. Called bad Newz Kennels, the pit bulls in the facility were tortured when they did not preform. Vick knew about this and condoned it. To see more go to This video
The threats against Vick were nothing new. He has extra security around him and he was been taunted . However, threats were made against the employees of the book store and the book store itself, which can never be condoned. This is a sick world and fearing a crazy person would seek to gain headlines , a decision was made to cancel the autograph signings.
Michael Vick was scheduled to appear in Exton Pa later next month. Some people feel that he has served his time, and should be left alone. Others could not care if the Eagles drafted a child molester from Graterford Prison, they would support the team with blind faith. Many people have given up on the team, not watching games, or listening on the radio. The stadium is filled, however, a good number of people go to root for the other team., or have tickets given to them.
Since he has joined the team, Eagles merchandise has been well stocked in the clearance isle of department stores. The fact that Vick has underperformed his expectations does not help. To his credit, he has stayed out of trouble since being released from prison.
Most of the threats against him and Barnes and Noble have been via social media sites, which it can be difficult to track. There is a huge difference between writing one's displeasure for Vick and threatening to harm him or other people. Social media sites are filled with both, as well as people that support him.
