Cisler wins annual 600 Club event; Century Doubles dates scheduled

Joanne Cisler posted the first-place score of 785 in Sunday's second annual Sarasota-Manatee Women's 600 Club tournament at Sarasota Lanes.

Peggy Calyer was runner-up with 762 in the event, which was contested on a handicap no-tap format. Peggy Parker finished third at 716, while other cashers included Cindy Miccichi at 705 and Gail Fargo at 704.

The high scratch game was posted by Karen Shaffer with 235, while Barb Ripley had the top scratch series with 672.

The 600 Club -- which reorganized last year after having disbanded several years prior -- is open to all area female bowlers who have rolled a past league scratch series of 600 or better. Eligible women who may care to join or inquire about the club should call president Pat Peters at (941) 355-4654, or they can e-mail her at jppp2@verizon.net

Dates for next Century Doubles announced

Mark your calendars if you are interested in taking part in the popular Bobby Combs Century Doubles tournament series, which features doubles competition involving teams that have partners with combined ages of 100 or more.

The next such event is scheduled for Sunday, March 18, at AMF Venice, and another one is set for Sunday, June 17, at AMF Gulf Gate. Entry blanks will be circulating soon.

Souzer tied for eighth in Senior Shootout

Chuck Souzer of Sarasota tied for the No. 8 position in last month's Villages Senior Shootout conducted at Fiesta Bowl in The Villages.

Tim Dunbar of St. Petersburg topped the competition, which drew 97 senior scratch entrants from throughout Florida. The February Senior Shootout is scheduled for Saturday (Feb. 18).

The Final Frame: Jerry Yettaw Sr.

The area bowling community is missing one of its top senior bowlers, Jerry Yettaw of Sarasota, who died on Feb. 7 at the age of 71.

Although he hadn't competed in league play since 2005-06, he carried a 204 average at Sarasota Lanes during the 2004-05 season. And in the final season that Rip Van Winkle Lanes was open (2003-04), he carried a 214 average and rolled a 299 game to open a 707 series on Sept. 29, 2003.

His son, Jerry Yettaw Jr. -- who now lives in Madison, Wis. -- was an accomplished Sarasota area player for many years, averaging as high as 220 at Englewood Bowl in 2008-09 and rolling perfect games at Rip Van Winkle in 2000 and at Englewood in 2005.
