According to the Canadian Interuniversity Sport website, the Canadian Interuniversity Sport national men's volleyball championship begins on Thursday from Jack Simpson Gymnasium in Calgary.

The quarterfinal matchups will feature the University of Dalhousie Tigers versus the University of Laval Rouge et Or (12:30 p.m.), the University of Alberta Golden Bears versus the University of Montreal Carabins (2:30 p.m.), the University of Trinity Western Spartans versus the University of Western Mustangs (6:30 p.m.) and the host University of Calgary Dinos versus the University of McMaster Mauraders (8:30 p.m.).

The mountain times listed above are approximate, because like baseball, games do not have a time clock.

The favourites in the tournament are the University of Alberta Golden Bears, who defeated the University of Trinity Western 25-20, 26-24, 26-24 to win the Canada West Men's Volleyball Championship in Langley, British Columbia on February 22.

Meanwhile, Thompson Rivers University right side hitter Brad Gunter was named the CIS Men's Volleyball most valuable player at an awards banquet in Calgary on Wednesday morning.
