Don’t miss Cirque du Soleil Varekai when it performs in Cedar Park, Texas, February 26 to March 2, 1014. This creation from the Quebec, Canada based organization is an amazing performance of quality artistic entertainment combining dance, acrobatics, art, and music into a spectacular production. Only seven shows will be available with tickets ranging from $42 to $108.

Guy Laliberte gathered a group of 20 street performers in 1984 into a troupe that has grown to 5,000 employees and has performed in more than 300 cities on six continents. The company now includes 1,300 artists from almost 50 countries. Varekai features an international cast of 50 performers from 18 different countries who rely on the language of artistic expression to wow everyone who sees their shows.

Varekai premiered in Montreal on 2002 and has since been seen by more than eight million people. It utilizes a variety of acts such as aerial hoop, aerial straps, hand balancing on canes, juggling, slippery surface, clowns, and much more to tell the story of a figure similar to Icarus.

It is set deep within a forest, at the summit of a volcano, in an extraordinary world called Varekai, which means “whatever.” A solitary young man is parachuted into the world of fantastical creatures. He takes flight in an adventure that at times seems absurd and other times quite extraordinary, as the audience follows along on his inspirational journey. The story pays tribute to the universal wanderer in a land where the impossible becomes possible.

Feats of daring and strength, flexibility and balance are enhanced by colorful, glistening costumes. Stunning displays of skill and power are set against innovative music and otherworldly sets. Vivid choreography pays tribute to ancient circus traditions of Icarian games and Georgian dance and then catapults into the future with extraordinary acts that will astound viewers.

The show has over 600 costumes, shoes, wigs, hats, and accessories. Make-up is so complex that it can take up to an hour and a half to apply—and each artist does his own.
