Christel and Colin MacLean certainly are making changes on the Saratoga Springs dining scene at a dizzying pace.
Last week, the enterprising restaurateurs sold their minority interest in Sperry's restaurant, which they had been managing, and bought out their minority partner in their Circus Café.
Today comes the announcement that they plan a May 1 opening of a new restaurant, called The Crown Grill, adjacent to Circus Café at 390 Broadway where Russo's Restaurant had a brief run last year.
The MacLeans purchased the 390 space from Jim Hogan. No price was announced, but it had been listed by the Weichert agency at an asking price of $199,000.
Circus Café will continue its family-oriented style, while The Crown Grill will be what the MacLeans describe as a Ralph Lauren Polo feel, with rich fabrics, oriental rugs, decorative wall coverings, leather seating and ambient lighting.
The two restaurants will be mutually accessible via several openings, including an eight-foot-high arched pocket door in the rear of the restaurant which will be opened for catering, large parties and special events.
The two restaurants will share The Crown Grill’s kitchen, which will be overseen by new executive chef Steve Kerzner, most recently chef de cuisine at Prime at Saratoga National. Before that, he worked in kitchens at 677 Prime, and Prime Bar and Grill, all part of Mazzone Hospitality.
The new restaurant will serve lunch, dinner and late-night bar food seven days a week.
