Circle of life Huell Howser California's Gold passes (Photos)

There is sadness and shock today in California as we hear the news that Huell Howser, a California icon has passed.

Huell would travel California and share all her beauties. He will be greatly missed.

It is wonderful that he left us with such a fantastic number of shows of our most historical state, here in sunny California.

He left these shows to Chapman University so they can be made digital and put online for free for everyone to enjoy.

Huell made California come alive. From Hearst Castle to simple little diners, Huell was there.

Huell was born in Tennessee in October of 1945. He loved California as much as us natives do.

Nineteen years of traveling throughout our golden state, he was a godsend to those of us unable to travel ever highlight of our state.

His visits to each California mission will continue to help teach future California third graders.

As you wait for baby to arrive, take sometime and check out Huell's California Gold. You don't need cable. It's on public television, our local KCET, hopefully for many years to come.

We'll miss you Huell.
