The 23rd Annual Cinequest Film Festival begins tonight in San Jose. If you see a film at Cinequest, any film during the festival, you will see the work of Sean McCarthy. South Bay filmmaker Sean McCarthy, along with his team at Guerilla Wanderers, created the trailer that is shown before each screening at the festival.
Admittedly, Sean says having his work seen by every person attending the festival adds a bit of pressure, "There is just that extra added pressure just to like, you know, refine everything that you possibly could, knowing that people will watch this multiple times." The festival attracts indie filmmakers, local and some not so local filmmakers, as well as big name celebrities. So, creating the opening does guarantee Sean a significant amount of exposure, "As long as they attend one film they've seen our film."
Sean describes the animation of the festival trailer as ambitious, "this one is combining 2D and 3D animation." The trailer follows a boy wizard as he enters the drab 'No Creativity Park' and is immediately chastised by the yard attendant. Everything in the 2D world is transformed to 3D by the flick of the wizards wand, Sean explains, "It's a metaphor for being exposed to the arts or being creative and trying to inspire other people."
Cinequest will open tonight with a showing of "Ginger & Rosa" at 7 p.m. Of course, you can catch Sean's work on the big screen before the film.
