Based on Christopher Folino’s cult comic hit, the superhero noir thriller “Sparks” makes its debut during Cinequest Film Festival 23. As San Jose’s leading independent film festivals, Cinequest has had several notable debuts and “Sparks” could make the list.
Ian Sparks (Chase Williamson, “John Dies at the End”) wants to protect others from evil. But after an encounter with the villainous Matanza (William Katt, “Carrie”), Sparks’ life and reputation is ruined. Filled with defeat and self-doubt as he discovers the dark side to heroism, will Sparks redeem himself or betray everything he ever stood for?
To kick off this world premiere of “Sparks” on March 1, Cinequest will hold a costume contest for those wanting to see the film. Attendees can dress up as an original or their favorite superhero for a chance to win exclusive CInequest prizes. All they have to do is stand outside the California Theatre at 6:15pm before “Sparks” begins. Judges will peruse the costumed attendees in line and select two winners by 6:30pm to receive the prizes onstage before the film starts at 7:00pm. Creativity and authenticity—but no live steel weapons or guns please—are factors to winning. Just make a good costume that accentuates your hero’s assets and you should be good to win.
Be sure to visit Cinequest for a full listing of films, events, and parties such as the premiere of “Sparks.” Cinequest Film Festival 23 goes from February 26 to March 10, 2013 in downtown San Jose.
