‘Cinderella’ returns to Sierra Madre Playhouse glass slipper and all

Renowned jazz vocalist Jane Fuller returns in the title role of Cinderella, in a musical version of the classic tale. June Chandler wrote the “book” and directs. Fuller wrote the lyrics and music. This limited engagement of this interactive show created especially for children is part of the  popular June Chandler Fairy TaleTheatre. The cast also includes Abraham Luna, Ron Johnston, Shirley McConnell, Jane Park, Hal Sweesy, Guy Crawford, Donna Ieraci, Helen Frederick, and Yvonne Durant.

As director June Chandler explains, there are plenty of opportunities for kids in the audience to directly participate.

“The children in the audience will all play Cinderella’s best friends, the mice. They’ll be kept very busy making Cinderella’s breakfast, cleaning the house, singing and dancing with Cinderella. The girls in the audience will be transformed into princesses and invited to the ball to dance with the handsome Prince Charming.”

All the while adults in the audience get to enjoy the musical performance of one of Los Angeles’ top vocal talents who describes her singing style as jazz-inflected pop.

Favorite among fairy tale of many a youngster Cinderella has been adapted for stage, television and film numerous times in live and animated incarnations. It has provided the theme for operas, ballets, pantomimes and even an ice show. The heroine has been played by such luminaries as Julie Andrews, Leslie Ann Warren, Leslie Caron, Anne Hathaway and Brandy. Few can resist the story of good things that happen when the shoe fits?
