Unless you’ve taken a class on Mexican history, you know that Cinco de Mayo also knows as The Battle of Puebla , isn’t a holiday that is necessarily celebrated in Mexico. But here in the ‘land of free and home of the brave’, we’ve adopted this ‘holiday’ and magnified it two fold. Yes, we Americans love any holiday that involves good food and good times.

There is a small lapse in the universe where you can get to break out into a zarape , and adopt a Spanish name grab a street taco or two ( okay…a dozen) . Or maybe you want to go into a little classier route and enjoy a glass of vino with some friends. Not to worry! The Mile High City has you covered. Not to mention in addition to having fun, you are also helping our local surrounding community. Feel free to give yourself a pat on the back. Be safe, and have fun this weekend, Denver!

27th Annual Cinco de Mayo Festival

When: May 3rd-4th 2014, festivities begin at 10 AM

Where: Civic Center Park in Downtown Denver ,between W. Colfax Ave and Broadway, Denver

Why: Food, live music, and activities for children, great for families.

Some of the related activities consist of : Green Chile cook off, a taco eating contest, and Chihuahua races. Be also sure to check out the local and featured performances during the event.

In our Community: The Cinco de Mayo “Celebrate Culture” Festival is produced by NEWSED Community Development Corporation who is a nonprofit organization. They provide affordable housing options to low income and moderate income families. Established in 1973, NEWSED’s mission is “to promote and develop economic, community programs and projects that raise the income, educational and political levels of Denver residents”.

2nd Annual Cinco de Vino

When: Friday, May 2nd , event kicks off at 9 PM

Where: The Living Room Wine Bar, 1055 Broadway, Denver, Colorado 80203

Why: Drink specials, live music/performances

A night filled with Latin flavor come and break out your best dancing shoes, while you dance the night away. Special dances performances featuring the Diana Sanchez Dance Company. There will also be drink specials all night including wine and champagne. Also don’t miss the chance to win a free bottle of champagne.
