It's been quite a trip to Madikeri(Coorg) from Bangalore. The trip takes almost five hours, counting all the stops in between. If you start early in the morning, you would be able to take a stopover at Bylakuppe, on your way to visit the Samudraling Buddhist Golden Monastery. The temple has three gigantic Buddhist statues inside the main temple, besides other ones in a nearby building.
The temple itself is beautiful and has intricate design and ornamental architecture. The paintings inside the main temple, the well laid doors, the gardens and the prayer ceremony is a treat to watch! The well dressed Buddhist monks, the elegant golden stupas, not to forget the turkeys and the small garden is noteworthy. There is a big bell which would definitely catch your eyes. There is an Elephant safari on your way from Bylakuppe to Coorg at Dubare.
Continuing the journey, you would pass Kushal Nagar, where all the better hotels are. It is a good idea to book your rooms in advance, since there are only a few hotels and home stays in Mercara(Coorg). The drive itself is gorgeous with the Coffee and pepper plantations and the winding roads, besides the Eucalyptus trees. The temperature is moderate in September, with the pristine beauty and the high altitudes, if you are a fan of higher elevations. You get very good Coffee, spices and oranges in Coorg. The Rajah's Seat, Bhagamandala Temple and of course, Talacauvery and the Abbe Falls nearby are some of the attractions, besides the Omkareshwara Temple in Coorg.
