Cincinnati Landmark Productions announces its summer season for 2014. With a tradition of comedies and musicals, the season includes war horses sure to please the audience of regular followers at the Covedale Center for the Performing Arts.
Opening the season is Hello Dolly playing from May 22 to June 1, 2014. Based on the play, The Matchmaker, by Thornton Wilder, the show features hit tunes with music and lyrics by Jerry Herman. The star of the show Dolly Gallagher Levi plays a matchmaker with positive results. Classic musical numbers include Put on Your Sunday Clothes, Ribbons Down My Back, Before the Parade Passes By, Elegance, It Only Takes a Moment and So Long, Dearie.
Following this hit is The Sunshine Boys by Neil Simon from June 19 to June 29, 2014. In a familiar story, Al Lewis and Willy Clark are a one-time vaudeville team known as “Lewis and Clark,” who grew to hate each other. Clark resented the wiser Lewis for breaking up the act when he opted to leave show business. In the play, it is 1972 and CBS invites the team to reunite for a special on the history of comedy. Nephew Ben convinces Clark to revive one of the old routines one last time. Comedy results from two cantankerous actors in the same room for a rehearsal, their differences of opinion and their shenanigans on the actual broadcast.
An Oscar and Tony-nominated musical, Footloose takes the stage from July 24 – August 3, 2014. Originally a movie, Footloose has lyrics by Dean Pitchford and music by Eric Carmen, Sammy Hager, Kenny Loggins and Jim Steinman. The movie soundtrack album reached number one on the Billboard charts and has sold over 15 million copies. This show is produced by the national award-winning Cincinnati Young People’s Theatre.
Closing the season is The Will Rogers Follies from August 21 to August 31, 2014. With music composed by Cy Coleman, the show features lyrics by the team of Betty Comden and Adolph Green. Although he died almost sixty years ago, Will Rogers remains a beloved figure remembered for his humor, wisdom and common sense. It was he who said, “I never met a man I didn’t like.” Rogers became a renowned star of stage, screen, radio and newspapers.
