Cincinnati's Appalachian Festival is a fun time for all

Here's a chance to celebrate the culture and traditions of Appalachia when you attend the 45th annual Appalachian Festival taking place at Coney Island in Cincinnati on the shores of the Ohio River on Friday, May 9, Saturday, May 10 and Sunday, May 11 (Mother's Day).

Appalachian Festival Expected to attract more than 50,000 people, this three day, family-friendly Festival will feature non-stop music on 4 stages, traditional dance performances, lots and lots of down home crafts, storytelling performances and plenty of delectable food.

There will also be demonstrations by traditional craftsmen who will also be selling their merchandise. And don't miss paying a visit to the Living History Village where you can see campers dressed in 1840's apparel who will be showing what Appalachian mountain life was like 150 years ago.

Among the musical performers will be groups like Rabbit Hash String Band, Sternwheelers, Bluegrass Mafia, Wayfarers, Night Flyer and Ma Crow & The Lady Slippers. The Festival will feature a special Appalachian Festival Sunday Heritage Mother's Day Review with several performers on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

There will also be dance performances by the Spirit of America Cloggers, Sugarfoot, the Crossroads Dance Team and Harkies Hoedowners and Hoosier Hoedowners.

And don't miss the various storytellers who will be relating fascinating tales of Appalachia.

Hours for the Appalachian Festival are 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $8 for adults, $4 for seniors (55+) and $2 for children (4-11). Children 3 and under are free. Visitors who bring 3 non-perishable food items will receive a $2 discount on admission. Parking is $6.

For an additional $6 per person you can enjoy Coney Island's classic amusement rides.
