The Cincinnati roller derby scene is poised to begin the 2014 season, with the Cincinnati Rollergirls, and Cincinnati Battering Rams competing in just two weeks.

On February 8 the Battering Rams travel south down I-75 to Bowling Green, KY to take on the Capitol City Hooligans of Springfield, IL. This will be the first bout for the Battering Rams since becoming a full Men’s Roller Derby Association (MRDA) member. The men from Cincinnati will however need to wait until their home opener in March before competing in a MRDA sanctioned bout, and I am sure that is exactly the way they would prefer it. There is no better audience for a team's cotillion than a home audience. Welcome to the show boys!

Northwest 340 miles away in Bloomington, IN the Violent Lambs will competing in Bleeding Heartland’s fourth annual B- Cup tournament, a two day affair.

The Violent Lambs, a perennial powerhouse on the 'B' circuit who recurrently take to the flat-track against 'A' squads from other leagues. The Lambs are looking fast and sharp on the oval already in 2014. Keep an eye on this team, they will do great things this season.

2014 B-Cup competing teams:

  • Bleeding Heartland Rollergirls Code Blue Assassins
  • Cincinnati Rollergirls Violent Lambs
  • Mad Rollin’ Dolls Dairyland Dolls B-Team
  • Minnesota RollerGirls Minnesota Nice
  • Naptown Roller Girls Warning Belles
  • Nashville Roller Girls Music City Brawl Stars
  • Toronto Roller Derby Bay Street Bruisers
  • Tri-City Roller Girls Plan B

The Violent Lambs will kick-off their weekend against Mad Rollin’ at 1:15 on Saturday in the main event of the day. In their last meeting on June 29 the Lambs and Madison’s Team Unicorn volleyed back and forth for 60 minutes, but the Lambs came out victorious 205-199. The parity between these two teams make their game on that Saturday a ‘can’t miss’ bout.

Back home in Cincinnati, the Battering Rams and the Cincinnati Rollergirls are preparing for their 2014 home openers. The Cincinnati Battering Rams will play to the Chicago Bruise Brothers in the Ram's first MRDA sanctioned bout on March 1 at Sports Plus. Tickets for this event are available here.

The Cincinnati Rollergirls kickoff their 2014 season March 8 at the Cincinnati Gardens when they host Brandywine Rollergirls; tickets are available here.
