The Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra plans to celebrate its 40th Anniversary with style and flare. They will be holding a special event called FUEGO which is the Spanish word for Fire on Saturday, March 8 at The Cincinnati Masonic Center downtown at 7pm. This celebration has two parts a concert which will feature saucy and simulating Latin infused classical music, rhythmic beats, and big band jazz sounds. The concert will be followed by a festive gala with delicious food, drink, and entertaining music.
FUEGO will be one of the main fundraisers for the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra this year. They are the only professional chamber orchestra within a 100 miles of Cincinnati. A chamber orchestra is usually smaller then a symphony orchestra consisting of approximately 32 members. This event is important to the group in that I helps them assist with community music outreaches such as the Music for Youth in Cincinnati (MYCincinnati).
This event will also honor individuals with charitable contributions to Cincinnati. Rosemary and Mark Schlachter will receive the CCO’s Pinnacle Award for Arts Advocacy – honoring a lifetime of arts support in Cincinnati. Melanie Chavez will be recognized as the CCO’s Rising Star, recognizing the emerging generation of Cincinnati arts supporters.
A great selection of music has been chosen for this concert which will includes the following:
Darius Milhaud’s le boeuf sur la tolt(The Bull on the Roof) which is a 18 minute ballet created by the French composer during World War I while he lived in Brazil. It was to reflect how sometimes life can be unpredictable, as well as chaotic at times.
Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 is the most well-known and popular of a series of compositions by Brazilian master Heitor Villa-Lobos in which he attempted to apply Baroque compositional practices in harmony and counterpoint to Brazilian music.
The concerts will also feature big band latin sounds of 1960 with arrangements by Antonio Carlos Jobim, Quincy Jones, Tom Kubis, and Paquito D’Rivera.
The Gala which follows this concert will include Latin inspired cuisine by Jeff Thomas Catering, and signature drinks by celebrity barista Molly Wellmann. Attendees will also be entertained by the lively and spirited music of Tropicoso.
Tickets to this event are priced at $25 for Adults, $10 for Children/Students and Concert and & Gala packages begin at $150. More information on this event is available at The Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra’s website: www.ccocincinnati.org. This will be a great event and good way to explore all the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra has to offer.
