Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco has been fined $25,000 for violating one of the league’s rules involving using social networking sites during games.
Last season, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell enforced a new policy for players when it came to using social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook. No player is allowed to use these sites 90 minutes prior to the start of a game and can resume using them once post-game interviews have concluded.
In Friday’s 22-9 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, Ochocinco posted a message on his Twitter account during halftime—not too long after he was shaken up by the Eagles’ secondary.
Man Im sick of getting hit like that , its the damn preseason (curse word)! 1day I’m gone jump up and start throwing hay makers , #Tylenolplease.
Apparently, the rule applies to preseason as well. Many analysts—including ESPN’s Chris Mortensen—noticed the timing of Ochocinco’s Tweet during the game on Friday and wondered if Goodell would take action against the Pro Bowl wideout. Four days later, Ocho is writing a check for his first official fine of the 2010 season.
Ochocinco is entering his 10th season with the Bengals and is coming off another Pro Bowl season. He finished 2009 with 72 catches for 1,047 yards and nine touchdowns.
