The Cincinnati Bengals received good news on Wednesday when they found out running back Brian Leonard will not miss the entire 2010 season after leaving Sunday’s Hall of Fame game against the Dallas Cowboys with a foot injury. According to Bengals beat writer Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer, there were no torn ligaments in Leonard’s foot and he could even be back on the field by the end of September.
At first, Leonard’s injury appeared to be nothing more than a minor ankle sprain that would keep him out for a few weeks at most. Then there were reports of possible torn ligaments in Leonard’s foot and the chance of him not just being out for a few weeks, but the entire season.
Now, the Bengals and their fans can be at ease knowing the diagnosis of Leonard’s injury is minor and he can play this upcoming season. He may be a third-string running back behind Cedric Benson and Bernard Scott, but Leonard was a valuable contributor to the Bengals’ offense last season. Not only was he an effective blocker, but Leonard emerged as one of the top go-to guys on third down situations.
