The annual NFL free agency frenzy officially started today. While some teams made a big splash by pursuing big name players like Percy Harvin, Anquan Boldin and Mike Wallace, the Cincinnati Bengals chose a different path—re-signing their own guys and keeping their core players together for another playoff run.
Today, they re-signed DE Robert Geathers, a seasoned veteran who has been in Bengal stripes since 2004. He had 45 tackles, 3.5 sacks and 5 tackles in their lone playoff loss to the Houston Texans last season.
The Bengals have also kept DE Wallace Gilberry and DE Michael Johnson in Cincinnati. Earlier in the week, the club re-signed K Mike Nugent, LS Clark Harris and P Kevin Huber. The Bengals are reloading for another shot at the playoffs. In their past two appearances in the post-season, they have been defeated by the Houston Texans.
Free agency offers the club an opportunity to re-sign key players and find castoffs from other teams that can make an immediate impact.
