There's only one thing better than the start of prep football season in the CIF Southern Section. And that's league play in the O.C.!
Here's a rundown of scores from some of the more interesting league match-ups that took place around the county this weekend:
Mater Dei 28, Servite 21
The Monarchs roll to 6-0 while The Friars drop to 3-3 in the competitive Trinity League. Servite needs a win next week against Santa Margarita to stay competitive. Mater Dei is currently ranked at No. 2 in the CIF overall football rankings behind league rivals St. John Bosco.

St. John Bosco 56, Santa Margarita 12
A pretty decisive win against the Eagles (3-3) shows why Braves (6-0) are in 1st place in CIF-SS rankings, in the PAC-5 Division and in the Trinity League.
Orange Lutheran 29, JSerra 13
JSerra (5-1) has enjoyed a pretty soft schedule up until now. They'll be tested again next week when they face Mater Dei. Can OLu (6-0) stay undefeated? They meet the unbeatable John Bosco Braves next weekend. So not likely.
Garden Grove League
Garden Grove 69, Bolsa Grande 0
Ouch. The Argos are 6-0 and should plow through the league with extreme ease.
Los Amigos 51, La Quinta 6
Another thumping in the league. With this win, los Lobos' (5-1) real challenge will be when they meet Garden Grove on October 24.
Pacific Coast League
Corona del Mar 36, Irvine 0
At 6-0 and ranked at No. 22 on the CIF-SS overall rankings, the Sea Kings are ranked No. 1 in the Southern Division ahead of Garden Grove HS. Next week they meet Woodbridge (4-2).

Fountain Valley 40, Marina 14
The Barons (5-1) are climbing in the Southwest Division. They travel to Huntington Beach HS (3-3) next week. Marina (1-5) have another tough challenge coming up as they face Los Alamitos (5-1) at Westminster HS on October 18.
Edison 48, Huntington Beach 6
Junior WR Jake Favreau and The Chargers (4-2) scored consistently on the Oilers (3-3) in this cross-town rivalry. Edison is currently ranked No. 2 in the Southwest Division behind La Habra. The Chargers face Fountain Valley on November 1 at Orange Coast College.

South Coast League
Tesoro 37, Trabuco Hills 34
In one of the best games of the week, the Titans (5-1) make SCL one of the more interesting leagues. The Mustangs (4-3) have suffered some tough losses in the past few weeks, but they're definitely a lot better than their record shows. They have a much needed bye next week.
El Toro 29, San Clemente 7
Currently the Chargers (4-3) are sitting in 2nd place behind Tesoro, but that's only because Mission Viejo (6-0) enjoyed a bye week. That will surely change when los Diablos host the struggling Tritons of San Clemente (2-5) next week.
