Bike, stroll, walk, skate, roller blade and play in the streets - safely! CicLAvia is back in the Heart of L.A. this Sunday, October 6, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Rediscover downtown Los Angeles while the heart of the city's streets are free from cars. Click here to view the 7.5 mile route.
Each hub features a variety of free activities. At the Chinatown hub, Kevin Bronson from Buzz Bands LA has curated 5 bands to play on the live music stage. The Knitts kick it off at noon. Dream Panther stalks the stage at 1 p.m. Jesus Sons rocks it at 2 p.m. 123Death come alive at 3:00. So does LA Font. Or, head over to the Far East Plaza to check out the life-size chess game. Think you're a hot Ping Pong player? Test your skills against someone nationally ranked, and find out!
Marvel as the vertical dance company, Bandaloop, performs on the exterior of City Hall suspended from climbing ropes at the Grand Park hub. Four blocks of live music, dancing, and food trucks are also on the agenda.
At the Mariachi Plaza hub, pick up fresh veggies at the Farmers Market, visit the delightful lending library and bookshop Libros Schmibros, and listen to live mariachi music. Don't have a bike? Rent one for free for 90-minutes, courtesy of Bike Nation, but reserve it in advance to avoid disappointment.
The Expo Park hub features community booths, healthy food demos, giveaways, Zumba classes and more! Nearby, the California African American Museum has a full entertainment line-up featuring bands, dancers, and hip-hop artists, co-hosted by vocalist Harlem Lee and Jeffrey Anderson-Gunter. REI presents a free-standing rock climbing wall and a photo booth at the MacArthur Park hub. Ditch your shoes, climb inside the Merrell running wheel and sprint like a hamster. Watch the Great Leap's Cycle of Change performances are at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 2 p.m,. with a special show by Quetzal at noon!
