This season of "Chuck" continues to build momentum, and Monday night's episode offered quite a few funny moments even if it did little to progress the main storyline involving Chuck, Sarah, and the Ring. Instead, we got to see some fun airplane sequences and a fantastic subplot featuring Casey and Morgan.
The plane storyline started simply enough: Agent Shaw ("Superman Returns" star Brandon Routh, who is continuing his guest role) wanted Chuck to prove himself as a spy, and he was tired of the way Casey and Sarah supposedly "coddled" the guy over the course of the past couple of years. Therefore, he decided to take matters into his own hands and send Mr. Geeky Spy on a mission to France. The kicker? The mission was actually to get a key from a Ring operative while still on the airplane.
The thing the main plotline did well was keep us guessing. Chuck met a potential love interest named Hannah (Kristin Kreuk from "Smallville") aboard the plane, and for a good percentage of the episode we thought that she was some evil agent out to screw him over. However, that didn't end up happening, and the real threat for Chuck's safety (the one that wasn't "Stone Cold" Steve Austin) came out of left field.
Outside of that, the airplane scenes felt a little bit awkward since we're not used to seeing Chuck on his own. There wasn't much chemistry between him and the other actors, so the comedy of the show went down a little bit.
On the other hand, the Buy More storyline this time was gold. Morgan was still having trouble with authority, so he enlisted the help of the oh-so-mysterious John Casey...who scares just about everyone even in his cover job. The steps Casey (as a "Buy More employee") was willing to take to help Morgan were over-the-top and hysterical, especially with his hypnosis of Lester at night. It was nice to see Adam Baldwin's character interact with some of the other characters, especially since we're so used to him spending most of his time running around and being a tough guy with the NSA.
By the end of the episode, the most significant detail moving forward is that Chuck has taken another step forward to stopping the Ring, and he could have a new love interest to boot. (Of course, we also can't forget that Lester is now programmed to obey Morgan.) What did you think of the episode? Let me know your thoughts with a comment and stay tuned for more "Chuck" news.
