Monday's entertainment calendar has two major music events circled on it: Juice magazine's Mixie Awards and a performance by Chuck Ragan & The Camaraderie. Here are the details.
One of the two major free Des Moines entertainment magazines, Juice will hold its 5th Annual Mixie Awards Monday night at Vaudeville Mews in Downtown Des Moines. The Mixie Awards celebrate Central Iowa's music scene, and are given out each year by Juice entertainment writer Joe Lawler. The event is free and open to all ages, and it will feature a performance by Des Moines alt-pop group Annalibera. Doors at Vaudeville Mews will open at 6 p.m., and the event will start at 6:30 p.m.
Over in the East Village, California folk rock artist Chuck Ragan and his band The Camaraderie will headline a show at Wooly's. Ragan, the son of a PGA golfer and a gospel singer, was a former frontman for the Florida punk rock band Hot Water Music before turning his focus to starting an annual collaborative multi-genre acoustic music tour (The Revival Tour) and a solo folk rock career. Ragan released his forth solo album Till Midnight on March 25 with the help of his back-up band The Camaraderie. Doors for the show will open at 6 p.m., and the music will kick off at 7 p.m. The White Buffalo and Jonny 2 Bags will open the show. Tickets for the all ages concert are $15 in advance and $17 at the door.
