When Chuck Norris gives you a job recommendation, you get to run a country. In the latest instance, that country is Israel.
The action film icon weighed in on next week's elections in Israel by endorsing Benjamin Netanyahu's reelection as Prime Minister. In a YouTube video posted yesterday (and featured below), Norris asks his friends and fans in Israel to elect Netanyahu to another term. The video features audio of Norris, while photos and video of the actor and Netanyahu are shown.
"Shalom, this is Chuck Norris," the actor says in the video. "With the election just days away, Israel has an important decision to make, so let me tell you what Chuck would do. In a rough neighborhood like the Middle East, Israel has its own tough guy. His name is Bibi Netanyahu. He showed Hamas it will not be tolerated."
Norris also noted Netanyahu's efforts to secure Israel's borders, bring UN sanctions against Iran, and earn the release of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit after being held hostage by terrorists. The video was produced by Jonny Daniels, a political consultant.
Thursday night, Norris responded to the video on his Facebook page. "To all my Israeli friends & fans... earlier today the following video was released that features a recording of my endorsement for Prime Minister Netanyahu. As I mention in the recording, I believe you should vote for Benjamin Netanyahu because a strong Prime Minister is a strong Israel. Israel is in my thoughts & prayers." His post also linked to the YouTube video.
Norris has had a long relationship with Israel. His classic 1980s action film The Delta Force was filmed in Israel, and many of his films were produced by an Israel film company.
Israel holds its elections next Tuesday.
