Chuck & Don’s care about employees as well as pets

Chuck & Don’s president Bob Hartzell shared in the summer 2014 Barkin’ Mews news that should delight employees and demonstrates their appreciation for the staff. Minimum wage was increased to $10.10 for store employees and the company implemented an employee stock ownership plan (ESOP). Such benefits are far from the norm in most retail establishments. Chuck & Don’s decision demonstrates their appreciation for employees in addition to their dedication to provide the best products available for pets.

The ESOP makes all eligible employees shareholders of Chuck & Dons. As the organization grows in value, team members will benefit significantly. Employees meeting the eligibility criteria are a member of the ESOP. The ESOP is a qualified retirement plan (per the U.S. Department of Labor) which protects the employees and governs the plans.

When team members retire or leave employment with Chuck & Don’s for any reason, the value of their Chuck & Don’s stock converts to cash and will go with them.

As Hartzell shared, their goal is for Chuck & Don’s to continue to grow in value with all shareholders benefiting. The ESOP provides another opportunity to attract, retain and reward the very best staff, which in turns helps insure customers receive the excellent service they deserve.

Chuck & Don’s stores are located in Wisconsin, Minnesota and there are currently five stores open in Colorado, with a sixth store opening in September.
