A veteran group of performers gathered at Pucketts Farm Equipment in Charlotte Thursday night to participate in the Charlotte Music Awards Americana-Bluegrass Showcase. MosArt, The Rusty Knox Band, Owen Poteat and Chuck ‘Charlyhorse’ Johnson and his All-star band performed for 3 hours under this rockin’ mostly full house of music fans and fellow musicians.
Judging the showcase were Willa Brigham, George Hatcher, Vivian Pennington Hopkins and Wayne Powers. Two things became abundantly clear as the night progressed. Fist, the immediate “winners” were the folks that came out to witness these veteran performers as they were treated to the music of four headliner groups in a very intimate setting. Second clarity was that noone else wanted to be in the position of these judges as there was no clear winner among the talent that had taken the stage.
But as the fog cleared this morning the CMA website posted the results! Chuck Johnson and his All-star band had taken home the gold! This win certainly validates their previous win at the Singer-Songwriter Showcase held at the Saloon Bar in February.
The band is made up of Chuck Johnson (guitar/vocals), Tom Kuhn (bass/mandolin), Tony Prior (pedal steel/dobro/fender), Woody Mitchell (lead guitar) and Rob Thorne (drums). Congrats guys!
A really great night of local live original music by masters of their craft!
