In late 2011, Chuck Brown began recording what would ultimately be his final musical gift to his fans, Beautiful Life. August 19th, just a few days before what would have been Brown's 78th birthday, fans will recieve this gift. Brown passed away May 16, 2012.
This final Chuck Brown album features 9 tracks with new music from Brown himself and includes 3 tracks from the Chuck Brown Band, who continues to carry the torch and the legacy that Chuck Brown started over four decades ago.
The title track, Beautiful Life, which features national recording artist, Wale, who is from the Washington, D.C. area, has been receiving solid airplay.
Along with "Beautiful Life" featuring Wale, Brown's new music includes "Best In Me" featuring Faith Evans and Raheem DeVaughn, "Pop That Trunk" featuring Sugar Bear and KK, Brown's daughter, "Oh Happy Day" featuring Y'Anna Crawley and the Howard University Gospal Choir. There is also the "Intro" featuring Doug E. Fresh.
The 3 tracks contributed by the Chuck Brown Band are "Lighters" featuring Ms. Yendy and Kanja, "Love is My Religion" featuring Frank Sirius and "Still Crankin'" featuring KK.
"Still Crankin'" was well received at the recent performance at the Strathmore Outdoor Concert Series.
The final track on this release is a cover of the Lou Rawls hit, "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine" and with Brown's smooth vocals, this will undoubtedly become a classic.
Brown has long been credited with creating the musical genre, GoGo, which started in Washington, D.C. by keeping the percussive beat playing to keep the audience dancing in between songs. Brown garnered national attention in the late 70's with his band, Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers, with the release of "Bustin' Loose". This was solidified with a performance on the long running show, Soul Train.
The official Chuck Brown Album Release and Birthday Show will be held on Brown's birthday, Friday, August 22 at The Howard Theatre, 620 T Street, NW, Washington, DC at 9:00pm with The Chuck Brown Band and special guests Jas. Funk, Sugar Bear, Ms. Yendy and more along with Black Alley.
