Dan Savage of Savage Love in Seattle (Shout out to SUMORE!) was the guest on Countdown last night. (All the guests congratulated Keith on his return and fans were equally thrilled to have him back!) The discussion included New Jersey governor Chris Christie's opposition to gay marriage. Mr. Olbermann posed a very interesting question, considering how absurd it would be if an overweight man and woman were not allowed to marry. He then admitted that he himself is olberweight, however, that desk hides it well. And even if he weighed a million pounds, there are a ton of women who would love to steal his heart away, and not just on Valentines Day!
There is so much more to a person than pounds, so much more than the physical, and so much more than genitalia. Mama used to always say, "Everybody's got a body." What about a person's mind? That is where all the real magic of chemistry begins, anyway. Those attracted only by the physical are often doomed to a very short term relationship, even just days, as seen in some recent shallow unions. The fireworks are lit in the brain. Spirituality plays perhaps the greatest part. (No, I am not talking about religion.) The essence of the person is in the spirit, that formless dimension that needs no physical space. Love is a child of the spirit. Truly untouchable and forever swirling about, an alchemy of alignment. Alloy, mate! (Or annoy, mutt!)
But just for love day, let us consider two large ships passing in the night...meeting and being just right for each other. Why, what would people say...especially on Valentines Day?
"Will you marry meat?"
"I knead you."
"Do nut ever leave me!"
"Quiche me, you fool!"
"I wanna hold your Hamburger Helper hand."
"He is heavy; he's my brother."
"Lookin' for fun and feelin' gravy."
"Baby, I ham yours."
"And I will always love Yahoo."
"People, people who need pizza are the luckiest people in the world."
Here's to all the big peeps! Well, the biggest peep would be a turkey, I guess. But you know what I mean. I have some pounds that desire to make the scale go down myself. Today is the day to love one another, without considering name, rank, or serial number. I won't say, "Let's get it on," but I will say, "Let's stay together." Hugs and kisses! xo xo
