CHS-PAWS is offering a $1000.00 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who broke into the animal shelter at Hayti over the weekend. Property damage and stolen electronics were reported.
According to shelter manager Erma Page, the break-in occurred over the Fourth of July weekend and is under investigation by Hayti Police Department.
“It is devastating to us that someone would break in and steal from a non-profit, no-kill shelter,” she said, “Our finances are already tight, and this just makes them tighter.”
The shelter discovered the break-in and missing items on July 7 after discovering tampering with a lock and open doors.
“This is a set back, but not the end,” Page said, “We are working on tightening security and are seeking donations to help replace a lap-top and camera. We are also seeking donations to purchase security cameras.”
Persons with information can call their local law enforcement or the shelter at (573) 359-0113.
“We really need leads in this case, and there are houses around us and we are on a main street,” Page said, “Someone knows something and I hope they will just come forward.”
All the shelter animals were accounted for and any open food items were destroyed in case of contamination.
“We really are reaching out for help at this time,” Page said, “As a small non-profit it is difficult to survive already, without a set-back like this.”
Donations to the shelter can be made at www.pcaws.org by using Paypal or checks can be mailed to P.O. Box 525, Hayti, MO 63851.
