This Friday, September 24, Universal Studios Hollywood will open their Halloween Horror Nights 2010 by handing out some awards to a few folks that made the horror genre what it is today. They will host the Eyegore awards tohonor those individuals who brought their most indelible and terrifying moments in the field of horror to life.
This year's recipients include producer, director, writer, actor Eli Roth (“The Last Exorcism,” “Hostel,"); Back to the Future star and three-time Emmy Awardâ-winning actor Christopher Lloyd ("Piranha 3D,”); actor Sid Haig (Rob Zombie’s “House of 1000 Corpses” and “Halloween”), and Betsy Russell and Gina Holden from "Saw" fame.
Eli Roth has been somewhat of a renaissance man of the film business of late. Not only is he a well known actor, director, producer and screenwriter in the horror business, but he has crossed over outside of the horror genre. Most notably when he played the now well-known character Sgt. Donny Donowitz in Quentin Tarantino's Oscar winning action thriller "Inglourious Basterds." Most people who saw the film remember him for pummeling Nazi's with a Louisville Slugger. He also produced, wrote, acted in and directed the Quentin Tarantino action film "Grindhouse."
Although Christopher Lloyd may now be most known for his role as Doc Brown from the Back to the Future trilogy, he was a legendary actor well before that. He made a brilliant film debut in the Best Picture winning classic "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest." After that he joined the cast of the show "Taxi" and made his mark winning three Emmies. He is also well known for his roles as Klingon Cmdr Kruge in Star Trek III, Uncle Fester in "The Addams Family", Judge Doom in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", and John Bigboote in the cult classic "The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai across the 8th Dimension" just to name a few.
By far the most horror savvy of all the recipients is Sid Haig. He has appeared in over 50 films and 350 TV shows. He has earned several previous awards including Fangoria-Chainsaw and Spike TV Scream Awards for his roles in such films as Rob Zombie’s “House of 1000 Corpses,” “The Devil’s Rejects” and “Halloween.”
Betsy Russell is most well known for her role of Jill Tuck, aka “Mrs. Jigsaw” in six movies in the “Saw” series and she recently starred in the Syfy channel movie, “Mandrake.”
Gina Holden has carved a niche in the horror genre via starring roles in Lifetime’s “Blood Ties” and CBS-TV’s “Harper’s Island.” She’ll soon be seen in “Saw 3D” and is also known to big-screen film audiences through her starring roles in the Flash Gordon series.
Actor Corey Feldman (“Lost Boys,” “Friday the 13th) will again host the event which features a meriad of famous horror icons and other stars. Guests include: Rob Zombie, Sheri Zombie, Peaches Geldof, Costas Mandylor (“Saw”films”), CarolynHennesy (“Cougar Town”), Mariana Klaveno, (“True Blood”), Patrick Fabian (“The Last Exorcism,”), Tobe Hooper, Bill Moseley, Corbin Bernsen, Bridget Marquardt (“The Girls Next Door”), Jolene Purdy (“Gigantic,” Donnie Darko”), Tracy Fairaway, Tanedra Howard, (“Saw”), Jimmy Van Patten (“Saw”), Tyler Mane (Rob Zombie’s “Halloween:), Chance Corbitt ("Lost Boys"), Jamison Newlander (“Lost Boys: The Thirst movie”)Iqbal Theba, (“Glee”), Josh Sussman (“Glee”), Max Adler (“Glee”), Rex Lee (Lloyd on “Entrouge”), Larissa Gomes (“Saw 3D”), Anne Greene (“Saw 3D”), Calico Cooper.
The Awards will also feature the winner of the "Halloween Horror Nights- Rob Zombie Film Competition." The competition was judged by Rob Zombie and a panel of high profile Hollywood film industry insiders and creative minds. The winning filmmaker will have his short film broadcast at the awards and the filmmaker will be honored in front of all in attendance. In addition he or she will win a premiere showing on Chiller, a posting on SyFy.com and $1,000 cash prize.
