Christopher Kane's Garden of Plush Florals and Milan Fashion Week (Photos)

NYFW ended last week and I'm still wrapping my head around the weal;th of trends and design that was on display at Lincoln Center. While I get my recap together, let's take a trip to Britain and Italy and see what's coming our way from across the pond.

While looking at photos for London Fashion Week, I realized that Milan Fashion week is well underway! Alberta Ferretti showed today, flexing classic muscles that brought Downton Abbey's Lady Mary to mind. Working in black and white, and a jewel toned palette for simple embroidered dresses and adorable full skirted coats, ferretti's clothing is uber feminine and sweet without being precious.

New genius on the blcock, Christopher Kane (he's the guy the has a knack for the next- like neon colored lace suits) showed an artistic urban/edgy collection replete with fur-trimmed camouflage parkas. He was strong on dresses, with velvety jewel-toned flowers strewn over sheer chiffon, and black edged panels built up to look like pieces of tape stuck together to make cocktail frocks. My favorite were the pieces that looked like 3-D spirographic scribbles.

Rihanna debuted her line, River Island, to mixed reviews. There were floral separates that follow the current trends, pretty silky dresses, and lots of things that would appeal to her fans. In spite of the recent controversy over her relationship with Chris Brown, the collection is pretty decent. She has lots of room to grow with it if she chooses to.
