Christmas tree recycling set to begin

Did you display a real tree for Christmas? Are you ready to undecorate it and dispose of said tree?  Baltimore County is ready to help you.  The County goes to great efforts to pick up the tree you want to throw away.  Pick-up begins on Monday, but only at curbside... read the details!

Baltimore County, Maryland, has an extremely successful recycling program. It will expand its efforts on Monday, January 9, 2012 to include pick-up of Christmas trees. This pick-up program will extend over a two-week period. Residents are encouraged to put their trees out for pick-up and recycling.

Residents must follow these simple rules when placing their tree for curbside pick up:

1) All trees must be placed at the street curbs.
2) No trees will be collected from alleys
3) No lights or decorations are to be left on the tree. (Not acceptable for the chipper!)
4) Tree bags or tree stands will NOT be collected. (Note, if stand is still connected to the tree, it will not be picked-up!)
5) Baltimore County residents who live in an apartment or condominium should follow their property manager's rules of where to place the tree for recycling pick-up. )

To ensure collection of your Christmas trees, residents must have the trees out at the curb no later than Saturday, January 14.

All Christmas trees will be picked up in standard trash/recycling trucks. Trees will be delivered to County facilities where they will be chipped. The proceeds from the trees will later be used as mulch.

Note, residents can take their tree directly to any one of the three County drop-off locations:
