Tis the season... to be at the theater for all the different holiday themed shows going on. Right around this time every year, the city lights up and spreads joy and happiness. And where else better to celebrate the holidays than at one of the many theaters in the city. As part of the holiday celebrations, below are some of the musicals and plays that are now playing in the city.

Now playing at the Alley Theater are The Santaland Dairies and A Christmas Carol A Ghost Story of Christmas. The Santaland Daires is a written by David Sedaris and directored by David Cromer. The play is an outlandish, and true, chronicle of David Sedaris' experience as a worker in Macy's Santaland display. Actor Todd Waite is reprising his role as "Crumpet the Elf." The Houston Chronicle called this comedy "a dream rendition at the Alley Theater, courtsey of the ideally cast Todd Waite." This show is recommended for mature audiences only due to language and subject matter. The play is running now through December 31st. If you're looking for something to take the kids to maybe you should consider the old time Charles Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol, which follows the journeys of Ebenezer Scrooge with the three Ghosts of Christmases. The Houston Press described the show as a "Spectacular London sets... the inmitable Dickens' tale - spiced with the usual fog and an unusual twist on the ghosts past, present and future." The play is running now through December 27th. Click on the links above to get more information.

If you haven't checked it out yet, this is the last weekend to catch TUTS presentation of How the Grinch Stole Christmas The Musical by Dr. Seuss. Featuring hit songs "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" and "Welcome Christmas," the Grinch discovers there's more to the Yuletide Season then he bargained for. In this musical version, Max the dog narrates as the mean and scheming Grinch decides to steal Christmas from the Whos of Whoville. Directed by Matt August, this cast includes Stefan Karl, Bob Lauder, Seth Bazacas, Carly Tamer and Brooke Lynn Boyd. The musical ends its run this Sunday (December 5th) at 5p.m. Click on the link above for more information.
