Christmas shows entertain the masses this holiday season on Long Island

Now that the turkey's been stuffed and the Thanksgiving holiday has drawn to a close, the official Christmas season has begun here on Long Island and the rest of the world. One of the best-loved traditions during the holiday season is losing oneself in a heartwarming holiday-themed story, and many theaters across the island are putting on their seasonal best just for you. Check out some of the productions happening this December at theaters throughout the island:

White Christmas - Patchogue Theater, Patchogue

A Christmas classic comes alive this December as the Gateway Playhouse presents live performances of "White Christmas," based on the 1954 film. Featuring the music of famed composer Irving Berlin, the show follows the antics of two veterans turned vaudeville performers as they woo a sister act and together try to save a Vermont inn. Enjoy such classics as "Blue Skies," "Sisters," and of course the title song.

The show opens on Friday, December 14th and runs through until December 30th. Check out the Gateway for tickets and show times.

A Christmas Carol/Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer - John W. Engeman Theater, Northport

The John W. Engeman Theater of Northport presents two Christmas standards this holiday season. First up is Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol," opens November 20th, with performances every Wednesday through Sunday until January 6th, and then that most famous of all of Santa's reindeer entertains the little ones with his story on weekend mornings beginning November 24th, with special added performances Christmas week. A Christmas Carol/Barnaby Saves Christmas - Theater Three, Pt. Jefferson

Performances of Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" at Port Jefferson's Theater Three is almost as much of a Christmas tradition as the story itself. The theater's talented company puts on a marathon of shows of the famous Christmas story beginning on November 15th and running all the way through December 29th.

Also playing this holiday season at Theater Three is another long-running tradition for the company as Santa, Barnaby and Franklynne set off on an entertaining journey to save Christmas. "Barnaby Saves Christmas" runs Saturday mornings beginning November 24th, with special added shows Christmas week. Check out Theater Three for tickets, directions, and more information.

Charlie Brown Christmas - BayWay Arts Center, East Islip

The Children's Theater at the BayWay Arts Center follows Charlie Brown as he goes in search for the true meaning of Christmas. The show is based on the popular television special and runs on various dates throughout the month of December. Check out BayWay for more.

A Christmas Carol - Creative Ministries Performing Arts Center, Oakdale

Yet another production of Dickens' most famous of tales takes place at CM Performing Arts Center in Oakdale, and this one is based on the stage version of the show at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Check out CMPAC for tickets and details.

The Nutcracker Suite/Clara's Dream, The Nutcracker/A Christmas Carol- The Musical - Patchogue Theater for the Performing Arts

There will be plenty of holiday entertainment at the Patchogue Theater this holiday season. In addition to the Gateway's run of White Christmas, the performing arts center will be hosting three additional holiday shows beginning December 1st with the American Dance Theater's performance of "Clara's Dream: The Nutcracker." Next, the Ovations Dance Repertory Company presents their own production of Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker Suite." Both shows run on various dates throughout December, so check out the Patchogue Theater for dates and tickets. In addition, for one night only on December 7th, a musical version of "A Christmas Carol" will enthrall the audience with this unique adaptation of the standard Christmas tale.

Winter Wonderettes - Smithtown Performing Arts Center

The marvelous girl group, The Wonderettes, return with a special holiday show that includes their own versions of Christmas classics such as "Run, Rudolph, Run," "Winter Wonderland," "Jingle Bell Rock," and more in this highly entertaining performance. The show opens on Friday, December 1st and runs through Sunday, December 23rd. Check out the Smithtown PAC for more.
