This year's tree hails from Shelton, CT, and, the tree survived Superstorm Sandy so it could fulfill its destiny to become a Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. It is a grand 76-foot Norway Spruce, and, is donning 45,000 multi-colored LED lights and topped with a 9 ½-foot-wide Swarovski star!
If you plan on attending the lighting, hurry and get to Rockefeller Center. Now! Crowds are already forming, and, within the next few hours, the NYPD will begin closing streets around Rockefeller Center as needed. Mass transit is absolutely your best option if you're making you way to the tree lighting.
