My grandmother has made this pudding for holidays since I was a little girl.  The dish reminds me of an old fashioned Thanksgiving or Christmas.  It's so easy.  Be sure you use real whipped topping!

Date Nut Pudding

• 1 egg
• 1 c. sugar
• 1 TSP. butter
• 1 c. hot water
•  1 tsp. vanilla
• 1 tsp. baking soda
• 1 1/2 c. flour
• 1/2 c. walnuts, chopped
• 1 c. dates such as Amport Foods brand
• 1  small container whipping cream
• 1/4 c. sugar

Mix all ingredients together except the whipping cream and sugar.  Place in a 9x13 pan and bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes.  Cut into bitesize pieces and put aside in a large bowl.  Beat the whipping cream and sugar together with a mixer until soft peaks form.  Right before serving fold the whipped cream into the cake pieces.
