Christmas ornaments & decorations: dough ornaments recipe

Have a homemade Christmas. Give the gift of time.

You can use this recipe as homemade play dough for the kids. You can also color the dough by using packets of unsweetened drink mix (such as Koolaid), which you can pick up for about 10cents per packet. Use green drink mix or food coloring and cut out Christmas trees, then decorate with glitter glue or glue on other small decorations.  Use yellow drink mix to make stars. Use your imagination, be creative and enjoy!

Dough Ornaments
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup salt
1 cup water
Other materials:
cookie cutters (any shapes, sizes - I like the mini ones)
paint (poster paint or any kind of paint you would use on ceramics)
paint brushes
glue
glitter or other small decorations
toothpicks
ribbon or yarn
Directions:
Roll out flat and cut into shapes with cookie cutters. Bake 325°F until hard (15 to 25 minutes). DO NOT let them get brown.
When they are done, let them cool completely before painting and decorating. I used regular poster paint. Let each color dry, before painting another color on the same ornament. If you want to hang them, poke a hole in the top (with a tooth pick) BEFORE baking. Cut ribbon & yarn to desired lengths for hanging.
