This Christmas in Cincinnati, like most, Sharon Woods has their “Holiday in Lights” display. Each year the Sharon Woods Park is staged and lit for Christmas so fans of joyful light displays can drive through and see all kinds of different holiday celebrations. Looking at Christmas lights or holiday displays in Cincinnati is always a joyful occasion that makes everyone feel like a little child. It is very hard to see one of Cincinnati’s parks decked out with holiday cheer and not remember the joy of this holiday season.
For Christians in Cincinnati, that joy should be a reminder of Jesus Christ and his birth. As Cincinnati Christians celebrate Christmas with lights and parties, it should be foremost on their minds that the reason for their joy is found only in the birth of Jesus Christ. Luke 2:8-10 states, “There were shepherds in the same country staying in the field, and keeping watch by night over their flock. Behold, an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. The angel said to them, ‘Don’t be afraid, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be to all the people.’”
Christmas is about the Good News of great joy. Seeing holiday lights should remind Christians in Cincinnati of their reason to be so full of joy this holiday. Joy dictates how people respond to their lives while happiness is conditional to their circumstances. Cincinnati Christians have an eternal reason to be full of joy this Christmas – the birth of Jesus the Savior who is “the one and only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14). What God has done through Christ the Lord in bringing grace and truth to the world is an eternal reason to be joyful.
