Christmas Fun: the Gingerbread House

Have you made the gingerbread house a Christmas tradition yet?  It's so easy and fun, you may want to start this year!  I've done this with my kids many years in a row now.  My kids are 16, 13, 8, and 4 so it's hard to find things we all enjoy doing together, but this is one thing all ages look forward to!  Of course, our favorite part is devouring it afterwards.  Our gingerbread houses will never be on the cover of Southern Living.  I just put it out there and let the kids have at it!  Some people keep their gingerbread house out as a beautiful Christmas decoration, but not at my house!  As soon as it's done, I get a quick moment to snap a picture for memory's sake and then they dig in!  Notice my  before and after pictures below.  Here is a link to a video that shows you how to make a gingerbread house:  It's a good video and the lady hosting it is easy to follow and very nice, but I have to admit I bought the kit from the grocery store.  The kits include the frosting already made and lots of candies.  Whether you choose the homemade gingerbread house or the kit from the store, I hope you have as much fun as we have!  Merry Christmas!
